I recently read an article in the NY Times talking about a new kid favorite recipe that hurts my feelings - Spaghetti Tacos! This idea was born on a show called iCarly, and has become a craze among young kids. I know it is all in good fun and kids should have a treat now and then, but it is amazing the way media plays into the foods kids find acceptable. Constant commercials for sugary cereals, fruit snacks, cookies, and other processed foods flood every channel. I do not have cable, but when I do watch tv all the commercials for foods are grain based, sugary, and highly processed. So, when a show like iCarly comes out with Spaghetti Tacos it is just another way to poison the minds of the masses and promote more processed carbs – who needs nutrients and energy from food anyway?
What if iCarly made a fresh salad or a gluten free dessert? What if she found a silly way to promote something healthy instead of a processed carb inside another processed carb?
Kids are now using the recipe at sleepover parties, family dinners, and lunches. I hate to be a party pooper, but I am not a fan of this silly recipe. I am however a huge fan of silly recipes that are full of healthy and nutritious whole foods – any suggestions?
